One Night Stand: The Post-It Plays
InViolet kicked off our new banner of programming: InViolet InSolidarity! In response to our political climate, our playwrights were challenged to write short plays each inspired by a post-it installed in artist Matthew “Levee” Chavez’s wall of post-its at the Union Square subway station. We explored a woman’s right to choose, familial strife, a new wave of activism, and learned about rape culture amongst ducks!

One Night Stand: Marry / F*ck / Kill
We gave our playwrights the challenge of incorporating the themes of the game “Marry/F*ck/Kill” for our darkest One Night Stand yet. We learned how married couples keep things fresh, the lengths ladies will go to meet their favorite celebs, and pondered how violence can actually be feminist!

One Night Stand: #OnlyInNewYork
For this evening, our community was our muse, and your best #onlyinnewyork stories inspired the raucous and moving storylines. We laughed with motherloving friends, debated fate and love, discovered what a small city this is, and presented our first short musical- which turned into a show-stopper!

One Night Stand: The Rites of Spring
We were so ready for spring, we couldn’t wait to celebrate it, and the Rites of Spring became the springboard for this evening’s writers. The night opened with a charming but ill-fated first date, continued with two of the most romantic adult film stars you’ll ever meet, and characters that made us wonder what labels and doing the right thing really means.

One Night Stand: The Postcard Plays
For this One Night Stand, we gave our writers a postcard, a cast, and the assignment to write a one act play inspired by them. We explored NYC blackouts, the one who got away, a cathartic art class, and the conjuring of the late Frida Kahlo. Thanks again to Brother Jimmy’s!

One Night Stand: Trick or Retreat
This one-night-only presentation of short, original pieces featured scenes of plays workshopped at our 2012 retreat. We offered this night of free theater to those who generously donated to our Trick or Treat Fundraising Campaign, and it was a blast giving them a peek at the work we do at our annual summer retreats. Thanks to Brother Jimmy’s for hosting!
