InViolet Spooky Bio Spotlight – Melanie Maras

October 17, 2012 By InViolet Theater

InViolet’s Spooky Bio Spotlight: Melanie Angelina Maras

Melanie Angelina Maras is a writer and storyteller. Her first play, KISS ME ON THE MOUTH, was directed by Stephen Adly Guirgis (2011 Tony Nominee for THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT) and produced by InViolet in 2009 at Center Stage New York. KISS ME ON THE MOUTH received rave reviews and had a sold out run. Variety called it a “contained, smar

t script” that “exhibits plenty of wit, craft and, most of all, heart.” KISS ME ON THE MOUTH was a 2010 Princess Grace Award Semi-Finalist. Melanie has had the privilege of telling stories at the Women in Comedy Festival and for HELLO GIGGLES, ASK ME STORIES, TOLD, and Kevin Allison’s RISK! show. She was honored to be a guest artist at the Singapore American School where she taught storytelling to high schoolers. Melanie is a founding member of InViolet Repertory Theater Company and a graduate of the Maggie Flanigan Studio. A recent transplant to Los Angeles, she is currently developing new works for film and television. Melanie is repped by Mason Novick (Oscar-nominated producer of JUNO) and William Morris Endeavor.

When InViolet began in 2007, I had some half-formed ideas that I wouldn’t dare to call a play and could never have considered myself a writer. In the five years that has passed since then I’ve been blessed to have my theater family support, encourage, and foster my growth as a writer workshopping and producing my first play, allowing me the opportunity to work with my writing mentor Stephen Adly Guirgis, and ultimately being the catalyst for my life as a writer. As Thoreau said, “if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” I’m doing it. I’m living my dreams. Thank you InViolet.
