When InViolet began in 2007, I had some half-formed ideas that I wouldn’t dare to call a play and could never have considered myself a writer. In the five years that has passed since then I’ve been blessed to have my theater family support, encourage, and foster my growth as a writer workshopping and producing my first play, allowing me the opportunity to work with my writing mentor Stephen Adly Guirgis, and ultimately being the catalyst for my life as a writer. As Thoreau said, “if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” I’m doing it.
